the 32nd annual triple bypass – July 11-12th, 2020

The Triple Bypass Bicycle Ride is recognized as one of the premier cycling events in the nation. Celebrating its 32nd Anniversary, the Triple Bypass takes you on a gorgeous tour through the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains from Evergreen to Avon Colorado.  Leaving from the Evergreen area, you will travel 120 miles on gorgeous (mostly) closed roads and paths to Avon, Colorado.  Course on Ride with GPS

Your ride includes:

  • The coveted Triple Bypass jersey – unique to each distance
  • Double riders receive a limited edition wind vest
  • 4 aid stations and a light lunch at Loveland ski area
  • Closed roads and trails – or if not closed, limited to vehicular traffic (we close westbound Juniper and Loveland Pass!)
  • Free beer, food and high fives at the finish
  • All support, including SAGs to the next aid, medical, and adoring fans

WHO WE ARE

The Triple Bypass is presented by Team Evergreen Cycling, largest and most charitable bike club in the state of Colorado. Through the proceeds of the Triple Bypass, TE has been able to donate $3 million to local non-profits.  We give back to the groups that support us including Bicycle Colorado, Colorado Mountain Bike Association, Special Olympics, the Boy Scouts and dozens more.  Learn more about who we give to.

Re: Why indoor riding is harder

Roy

The best thing about riding outdoors is, well, being outdoors. The best thing about riding indoors is simply that it's safer. The worst part about riding outdoors is the risk of getting hit by a car by someone distracted by texting or otherwise.  We can ride trying to be as careful as possible, ie, daytime lights, high visibility clothing, signaling our intentions etc. But, the fact of the matter is that we are so vulnerable. However, we found ourselves nonetheless braving the roads for a just a little bit of freedom and that wind in the face sensation that an indoor fan can't quit simulate. All the virtual riding apps can't replace that outdoor feeling. Yet, as I get older I find myself increasingly conscious of the risk of being on roads that don't have wide shoulders, neighborhoods hostile to cyclists, more traffic that ever before etc. It almost dampens my enthusiasm to ride outside. Riding indoors is simply a workout. That's fine. But riding outdoors is an experience. I end up doing a little of both.

Great article. Thanks Anna.  Some excellent points made.

Buying my Wahoo Kickr 2 winters ago was the best investment ever!  Although I tire of riding inside by late winter it has been an amazing tool to challenge me and keep my interest in riding.

Whether you prefer Zwift, Rouvy, Sufferfest, and/or spin class (or another training platform) the goal is to keep riding all year with awareness about adequate recovery weeks etc..

There is no OFF season....just outdoor season and indoor season. Ride On all.

IT'S ABOUT TO GET REAL
Registration for the Triple Bypass opens Wednesday, January 1st.  Turn all that holiday dinner talk into action.

40, 75, 120 and 240 MILE OPTIONS
THE DOUBLE TRIPLE BYPASS

You asked for it. Well, here's your chance, big talker.  Head out from Evergreen on Saturday, turn around and ride back on Sunday.  240 Miles and 20,000' of elevation gain over 2 days.  Wake up.  Kick butt.  Repeat.
TIMING ON SUNDAY

All eastbound riders will receive electronic timing for the uphill portions of the passes. Is it a race? No. Will there be awards for the fastest time up each pass?  You betcha.  Some folks will just want to finish the thing, and we respect your sanity. Others, well you know who you are. Bring it.
WE THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The Triple Bypass is a non-profit.  All proceeds are given to community based organizations and cycling advocacy groups, totaling over $3M in our history.  Do yourself a solid and register; you are in the lucky position of giving and getting all at the same time.

We can stop at the donut shop/bakery in Dundee if the group isn't too cold.  Yummy!

Anyone up to ride from BHS?  Dundee loop which will give us a bit of a tailwind on the way home and about 33 miles.

Please email me if you're interested.  If no interest I will stay in my warm basement on Zwift.
